Leg Ulcer Assessment & Management for Qualified Nurses CPD 12 hours

This is an in-depth two-day course delivered by clinical specialists working within the field of Leg ulcer assessment and management. Nurses will be able to develop their knowledge, skills, and competence to ensure that lower limb care delivery is evidence based. The overall aim of the course is to improve healing rates and patient experience. The course content is inclusive of the current best practice surrounding the assessment and management of venous leg ulceration to ensure clinically and cost-effective care.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To learn the current best practice surrounding leg ulcer management.
  • To develop the appropriate knowledge & skills to deliver safe & effective lower limb care.
  • To learn the relevant national guidance to support quality care delivery and improve healing outcomes of venous leg ulceration.

Course Content Day One:

  • Anatomy & Physiology of Venous ulceration
  • Aetiology of leg ulcers
  • Bandage Classification & Laplace’s Law.
  • Wound & skin Care
  • Infection assessment & management
  • Dressings & treatment choice
  • Doppler Theory

Course Content Day Two:

Practical sessions

  • Lower limb assessment; specific and holistic assessments
  • Manual Doppler & Calculation of the ABPI
  • K Two Bandage Application
  • Actico Short Stretch Bandage Application
  • Hosiery selection and measuring workshops
  • Well leg session to prevent re-occurrence of venous ulceration
